β€οΈ Back on Track: The History of the Pioneer Express π΅
The Pioneer Express Railroad has deep roots here at 7A Ranch! Back in 1971, a longtime dream of founder R.L. came to life when his son Raymond W. had a narrow-gauge railroad built by the Avey Bros. of San Marcos, Texas. The twins, Roy and Ray Avey, were park railroad enthusiasts β Roy even worked with Walt Disney in a live steamer hobby group!
That same year, the Pioneer Town & Pacific Railroad began delighting guests with rides aboard its half-scale replica of an 1870 wood-burning engine, complete with a tender, two passenger cars, and a caboose. For nearly 30 years, riders enjoyed a mile-long journey filled with corny humor and good old-fashioned fun β spotting βMickey Mouse cactus,β passing the βOrr House,β rolling through a tunnel, and crossing the trestle overlooking Old Iron Springs, known as βthe most re-lie-able springs around!β
