The Story of the Opera House 🤠🎭

In the late 1950s, a tornado in R.L.’s hometown of Waco damaged the third floor of a Masonic Hall that once held a 1904 Opera House. When R.L. learned it was being torn down, he set out to save it—hauling salvaged pieces from Waco to Wimberley, load by load.

He rescued wall paneling, stairs, banisters, the stage arch, brass rails, and rows of ornate cast-iron theater seats. Brass lights from the old Travis County Courthouse, 100-year-old theater organ from Austin, and vintage doors and windows from Waco added even more character.

With the help of local carpenter Tim Harris, R.L. rebuilt the Opera House through the winter, modeling its exterior after Disney’s Golden Horseshoe and finishing it with an 1890s bar from Tomball, Texas.

Today, the Opera House stands as a one-of-a-kind piece of Texas history—where Victorian elegance meets Western charm.
